Claude Personal Finance: How It Works, Safety & vs ChatGPT
Claude Personal Finance connects your bank and cards via Plaid, read-only, for US Pro, Max and Ultra users. What Claude sees, how safe it is and how it compares with ChatGPT Finances.
Quick answers
- What is Claude Personal Finance?
- Personal Finance is a beta hub in Claude, launched November 5, 2026, that connects your bank and credit card accounts through Plaid so Claude can answer questions about your real spending.
- Who can use Claude Personal Finance?
- Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US, at no extra cost. Free users and people outside the US cannot use it yet.
- Is Claude Personal Finance safe?
- Access is read-only, so Claude cannot move, manage or invest money, and chats in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic's models.
- Claude Personal Finance vs ChatGPT Finances?
- Both use Plaid. ChatGPT Finances launched in May and covers investment accounts; Personal Finance keeps finance chats out of training by default and has no ads.

Claude Personal Finance lets Claude read your bank and card accounts, but never touch your money. Anthropic launched Claude Personal Finance in beta on November 5, 2026, with Plaid powering the account connections. Plaid links to more than 12,000 banks, so most US accounts work.
This page covers how Claude Personal Finance works, what Claude can see, who gets it, how safe it is and how it compares with ChatGPT Finances.

How Claude Personal Finance works
- Open the Personal Finance hub in Claude and choose to connect an account.
- Sign in to your bank in Plaid's secure window.
- Claude pulls in account details and transaction history.
- Ask questions in plain words, like "Where did my money go this month?"
What you can do with Claude Personal Finance
- See where money went: spending sorted into rent and utilities, food and drink, shopping and more, across all accounts.
- Catch problems: duplicate charges, surprise fees and bills that crept up over the year.
- Check the big picture: whether you spend more than you earn and which bills are due before payday.
- Charts: weekly spending charts, expense calendars and budget breakdowns.
- Learn the terms: ask what APR means, then have Claude work out the interest you paid last year.
Personal Finance is not an advisor. Anthropic says it is not built to recommend investments, and it is exploring work with licensed professionals and regulated firms for real advice.
Is Claude Personal Finance safe?
Two design choices carry the safety story. First, Personal Finance is read-only, so even a bad answer cannot move a dollar. Second, chats inside the hub stay out of model training whatever your general settings are. Note the edge: if you paste bank details into a normal Claude chat instead of the hub, your normal privacy settings apply.
