Quick answers

When is the Claude Fable 5.5 release date? Anthropic has not announced one. As of October 21, 2026, Fable 5.5 is not released, but leaks across Azure, LiteLLM and public GitHub commits point to a launch within days, most likely in late October.

Is Claude Fable 5.5 out yet? No. The current Fable model is Fable 5.1, released September 1, 2026. Posts titled "Introducing Claude Fable 5.5" that circulated on October 14 and October 20 did not come from Anthropic or @claudeai.

How much will Fable 5.5 cost? Expect $10 per 1M input tokens and $50 per 1M output tokens, the price of Fable 5 and Fable 5.1. That is also the price shown in the briefly visible Azure catalog entry for claude-fable-5-5.

Claude Fable 5.5 has no official release date yet, but every signal says the launch is close: the model ID claude-fable-5-5 has already appeared in cloud catalogs and developer tools, partners reportedly have access, and Anthropic has shipped Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 in the last month. Fable 5.5 would complete the Claude 5.5 family. When it lands, it will appear on the Anthropic newsroom and the @claudeai account first.

Key points:

  1. Not released as of Oct 21, 2026; no date from Anthropic.
  2. claude-fable-5-5 was seen in an Azure catalog sync (Oct 13, listed as Generally Available, East US 2) and then removed.
  3. The same ID briefly showed up in LiteLLM's Azure model list on Oct 21 and was removed.
  4. A T3 Code pull request merged Oct 20 contains Oct 17 commits co-authored by "Fable 5.5".
  5. The Information reported Anthropic is testing a new model that is better at reading user intent; most people assume it is Fable 5.5.
  6. Expected price: $10 / $50 per 1M tokens, the same as Fable 5 and 5.1.

Claude Fable 5.5

Expected to complete the 5.5 family

Fable 5 to Fable 5.1 took 84 days. Fable 5.1 is now 50 days old. That looks early for a new Fable, but the 5.5 family has moved fast: Opus, Sonnet and Haiku 5.5 shipped 15 days apart. A Fable 5.5 between late October and early November fits that pace. Anthropic's big launches have landed on weekdays, often Tuesdays, around 17:00–18:00 UTC.

You may also see "Fable 5.2" in search results. No model with that name has been released; it was a September leak name, and the next Fable is being tracked as 5.5 to match the rest of the family.

3. Search interest: Fable 5.5 demand is already here

Google search interest for "fable 5.5", worldwide, Jul 21 to Oct 21, 2026, with spikes after Opus 5.5, the Oct 14 fake post and the Oct 20 "coming today" reports

Searches for "fable 5.5" were near zero through early September. They jumped on September 22, the day Opus 5.5 opened the Claude 5.5 family and people began asking where Fable 5.5 was. Interest stayed high, then spiked again on October 14–15 (the fake launch post) and on October 20, the day "Fable 5.5 is coming today" posts went around. October 20 was the 30-day high.

4. What to expect from Claude Fable 5.5

Capabilities. The best hint is The Information's report: an early tester said Anthropic's next model reasons better and is better at working out what the user actually wants. Asked to fix one bug, it might find the shared cause behind a class of bugs and ask whether to fix them all. Asked about stocks, it might design its own forecasting method instead of repeating P/E ratios. Developers on X who say they reached the model through routing have posted long one-shot coding builds: a 7-hour code-only 3D scene, single-file HTML games and SVG tests.

Fable 5.1 set the baseline: Anthropic pitched it for complex, long-running tasks and research. Fable 5 already "stays focused across millions of tokens in long-running tasks" and improves its work using its own notes. Expect Fable 5.5 to push further on long agent sessions, coding and intent.

Pricing. Fable 5 and 5.1 cost $10 per 1M input tokens and $50 per 1M output tokens. The leaked Azure entry shows the same. Opus, Sonnet and Haiku 5.5 all came in cheaper than the models they replaced, so a price cut is possible, but $10 / $50 is the baseline to plan with.

Platforms. Fable 5 was "available everywhere" on day one: Claude apps, Claude Code, the Claude API, and the major clouds. The Azure leak suggests Microsoft Foundry is ready for Fable 5.5. Subscription access may roll out in stages again, as with Fable 5; some X posts say Pro users will get it.

Safeguards. Fable 5 answers a narrow set of cybersecurity, biology, chemistry and distillation requests with the next-most-capable model; Anthropic says that happens in under 5% of sessions. Expect the same system on Fable 5.5. Claude Mythos 5 stays restricted to Project Glasswing and approved researchers.

5. How to tell when Fable 5.5 is live

  1. Anthropic newsroom and @claudeai. An "Introducing Claude Fable 5.5" post from the official account. Check the handle; fakes have already circulated twice.
  2. The model ID. Call claude-fable-5-5 on the Claude API. Before launch it returns a model-not-found error.
  3. Claude Code. The /model picker lists the new Fable as soon as it rolls out to your plan.
  4. Cloud catalogs. Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI and Microsoft Foundry add the model on launch day.
  5. Routers and SDKs. LiteLLM, OpenRouter and Cursor usually add the ID within hours.

6. Where Sumus fits: use Fable 5.5 with your team

Yes, you can use the newest Claude models in Sumus. Sumus is a group chat where people and AI teammates work in the same conversation, and each agent can run on the model you choose. When Fable 5.5 ships, you can point an agent at it and keep the others on Opus 5.5 or Haiku 5.5 where they are cheaper.

The useful part of a new Fable for a team is not one chat answer; it is long tasks that someone has to check. In Sumus you can hand an AI teammate "re-run our 20 hardest prompts on Fable 5.5 and Opus 5.5 and summarize what changed." It brings in other agents for the subtasks and returns results the whole team reviews in the same thread. Already use Claude Code? Bring it into the group chat so another agent can review its diffs while your team signs off in plain view.

7. What we're watching

  • An official post from Anthropic or @claudeai, and the launch blog with benchmarks.
  • Whether price stays at $10 / $50 or drops like the other 5.5 models.
  • Day-one availability on Bedrock, Vertex AI and Foundry.
  • Subscription access: Max, Team Premium and Pro limits.
  • Whether a Mythos 5.5 ships alongside, as Mythos 5 and 5.1 did.

FAQ

Has Anthropic confirmed Claude Fable 5.5?

No. As of October 21, 2026, Anthropic has not named or dated Fable 5.5. The evidence is leaks: the claude-fable-5-5 ID in Azure and LiteLLM lists and "Fable 5.5" co-author tags in GitHub commits dated October 17.

Why didn't Fable 5.5 launch on October 20?

Reports on October 20 said it was "coming today," but nothing shipped, and Anthropic has not commented. Polymarket traders had given October 20 about a 41% chance on October 18.

Was there a Claude Fable 5.2?

No released model was called Fable 5.2. The name appeared in September leaks; Anthropic shipped Fable 5.1 on September 1 and then moved to the 5.5 naming with Opus, Sonnet and Haiku 5.5.

Will Fable 5.5 be in Claude Pro?

Likely, with limits. Fable 5 went to Max and Team Premium at 50% of limits from July 20, with Pro using credits and a one-time $100 credit. Plan details for 5.5 will come with the launch.

Is Fable 5.5 better than Opus 5.5?

It should be. Opus 5.5 was built to match Fable 5.1 on most work at lower cost, so a Fable 5.5 is expected to sit above it on hard coding, research and long agent tasks, at a higher price.

Can I use Claude Fable 5.5 with Sumus?

Yes. Pick the model per agent in Sumus, hand tasks to AI teammates in your team chat, and bring your own Claude Code in. When Fable 5.5 is available, you can switch an agent to it and compare it with the rest of your lineup in the same thread.
